BTS’s takeover of U.S. late-night TV continued on Feb. 25 when the band took part in Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The segment is nearly 17 minutes of pure joy. Carpool Karaoke showed audiences what ARMY already knew; the members of BTS are talented singers, rappers, dancers… and comedians.

Carpool Karaoke with BTS was hilarious

Right out of the gate, Carpool Karaoke was peak comedy. Corden went through the standard introduction and thanked his mystery guests for helping him get to work. The camera then revealed BTS in the car with him.

“The traffic in Los Angeles is terrible,” said RM, the only member of BTS who does not have a drivers license.

“MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)” played, and the jam session began.

“Now this shouldn’t shock you,” Corden said once the song finished. “My Korean is not great.”

“Me too,” said Jungkook, who is fluent in Korean.

This led Corden to ask RM how he is fluent in English. As RM explained that he became fluent by watching the TV show Friends, Jin and Suga had a hilarious conversation in the back of the car.

“Well I’ve watched Friends too,” Jin said to Suga.

“Me too,” Suga said.

“But I can’t speak English,” Jin said.

“I enjoyed watching it,” said Suga.

“Me too, it was fun,” Jin agreed.

“He memorized it to study,” Suga said about RM.

The actual karaoke part was great too

For Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden, BTS and Corden sang along to a variety of songs. The first song was “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix).” After RM’s Friends story, they sang the show’s theme song with V and Suga adorably clapping along.

The group then sang Bruno Mars’ “Finesse (Remix) (Feat. Cardi B).” During this song, it was impossible for J-Hope to contain himself and he danced along in his seat.

BTS and Corden sang along to “ON,” the lead single from BTS’s new album Map of the Soul: 7. During the song’s bridge, Jungkook effortlessly belted out the high notes. Next, the group sang the first single released from Map of the Soul: 7, “Black Swan.”

Corden asked the BTS members which celebrities they have enjoyed meeting. J-Hope said Madonna was his favorite, RM said he loved meeting Nas, and Jin said he enjoyed meeting Post Malone. The group then jammed out to Post Malone’s song “Circles.”

James Corden adopted Jimin

After singing to “Finesse,” Corden discussed the nicknames the BTS members were given by fans. V said his nickname is “Good Boy” and Jin told Corden that his nickname is “Worldwide Handsome.”

“That’s so weird, because that was my nickname at school,” Corden said.

Jin burst out laughing and went, “You’re joker guy.”

Whenever someone meets Jimin they fall in love with him, and late-night talk show hosts are no exception. During Carpool Karaoke, it came up that Jimin’s nickname is “Mochi.” The group burst out laughing when Corden pointed at Jimin and yelled “Mochi!”

“You Papa Mochi,” Jimin told Corden.

“You’re Baby Mochi,” Corden said to Jimin and the two gave each other a high five.

“I’m so proud of you, Baby Mochi,” Corden said.

“I miss you, Papa!” Jimin yelled.

BTS visited a dance class for Carpool Karaoke

During Carpool Karaoke, Corden insisted he could join BTS. He noted that not only can he sing, he can dance because of his weekly dance class. To prove it to BTS, he decided to take them to his exercise dance class.

“I want to see Papa Mochi dance,” Jimin said.

After Corden changed into workout gear, they all jumped into a dance class that was already in progress. Being the professionals they are, the members of BTS picked up the moves easily. However, it was still a workout.

“This is hard,” Suga remarked as they danced along with the class.

After one of the dances, J-Hope and Jimin collapsed on the floor. Corden suggested the BTS members teach the class some dance moves, and RM and J-Hope volunteered Jimin. He proceeded to teach the choreography for the chorus of “ON.”

From start to finish, Carpool Karaoke with BTS worked because the band members were allowed to be themselves. The segment capitalized on everything fans love about BTS, from their humor to their talent. Each member stood out in their own way because their personalities were given the chance to shine.
