Barbara Roye, 82, died Easter morning while at Doctors Hospital. Her family tells us she tested positive for COVID-19 10 days ago.

The family says they were initially told Roye was being admitted to Doctors for respiratory problems on April 2.

Her granddaughter, Amber Peloquin, came two days later for a visit and was shocked to hear she was in isolation after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Keep in mind this is more than a week before the outbreak at Windermere was made public.

"It feels like a dream you hear about all these people dying,” Peloquin said. “You hear about the death rate and the toll going up, but you never think it’s going to happen to you in your home town in your grandmother’s nursing home. You never think it’s going to be you, and that is why I am angry."

Nearly 90 people from the home are now positive for COVID-19. The outbreak did not become public until three days ago.

CAVE, the agency in charge of inspecting long-term care facilities was at the facility on Monday. They say despite the massive outbreak inside, there were no isolation or quarantine areas set up and patients were free to move about. This is against CDC guidelines.

As for Windermere, they released a statement saying they are following CDC guidelines for the pandemic.

It's very difficult to track COVID deaths in nursing facilities. Nursing homes are not required by law to notify the coroner of a death in the facility. There is not a way to identify nursing home patients who have died of COVID-19 unless they're transferred to the hospital and die there.
