Hospital matron photographed with Boris Johnson dies from coronavirus - New York Post

A British hospital matron who was once photographed with Prime Minister Boris Johnson died of the coronavirus just months before she had planned to retire, according to a new report.

Sara Trollope, 51, a mother-of-four and grandmother who spent 33 years working for the National Health Service, died at Watford General Hospital Saturday after battling the virus for a week, Metro UK reported.

Trollope, who had worked as a matron for adult mental health services at Hillingdon Hospital, was photographed with Johnson last year when he visited her hospital in his constituency, the outlet reported.

Colleague Chris Wilson called Trollope “an incredible rare gift to humanity,” according to The Evening Standard.

In a GoFundMe page launched for the family, friend Tracy Woods said Trollope was “a wonderful woman” who “only ever wanted to become a nurse.”

“Sara cared very much about her patients and staff and completely loved her job,” Woods wrote. “Sadly it was this job that cost her her life. She fought this bravely for 7 days until it became too much for her and she passed peacefully.”

Trollope also cared for her husband Gary who was injured during his service in the Army, leaving him unable to return to work, according to the fundraising page.

She also leaves behind daughters Gemma and Freya and twin sons Kyle and Michael, the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust said in a statement provided to the Standard.

The trust said Trollope “worked tirelessly with dedication, commitment and passion” for patients in a “long and successful” career.

“Sara had that unbeatable combination of kindness, selflessness and total determination to get things right for patients,” Dr. Paul Hopper, medical director for the trust, told the paper. “She knew every little detail, she talked in her understated way about how she’d solved problems, and she had total conviction that the improvements really mattered to patients – even though they couldn’t express it themselves. She was an example to every one of us.”

More than 30 National Health Service staff in the country are thought to have died of COVID-19, according to Metro UK.

A total of 85,212 coronavirus cases and 10,612 deaths have been reported there as of Monday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Johnson was discharged from London’s St. Thomas hospital on Sunday after his own battle with the bug.

The prime minister could be on the mend for several more weeks before returning to work, according to a Monday report.
